In 2025 the 20th World Rose Convention was held in Fukuyama, Hiroshima.
I attended the Convention, and enjoyed the internatioanl exchange in Fukuyama from May 18 to May 24.

Just after I came home, as a post post tour in Hokkaido I welcomed the guests from all over the world who traveled various places in Japan after the Convention.

The total number of the guests were 27. Nine from Japan, others from Germany, Canada, USA, UK, Australia, South Africa, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Iceland!

May 31, the first day of the post post tour, was too early to see the common rose flowers in Hokkaido. However, a few days before the tour Rosa acicularis in my garden had just begun to bloom. I suddenly decided to stop at my garden on the way to Sapporo after Chitose gardens. It was so reckless! But all is well that ends well! I could entertain the guests with rose sherbet and fruit cake I had prepared. They seemed to enjoy the stop at my garden. Thank you for coming all the way to Hokkaido, my guests!

In the flower box of the entrance area, I planted a rose for the first time. It's Rosa 'Gunmai.'
Basically it is not a good place for roses, since the rainwater and the snow melting water come directly into the box from the carport roof.
However, Gunmai is a very strong cute rose. I expect it as a fresh pink welcome rose.

Japanese
Roses of the Year

I planted Jasmina in 2023 as a rose of the kitchen window decoration.
It took it only 2 years to fringe the window!
 Moreover it's cute and pretty!
It's a very strong rose even here in Kitahiroshima. I love it.

The white garden appears depending on the timing of the white rose blooming.

 This year's timing is perfect!
Alba Maxima and Mme. Hardy bloomed beautifully.

As a matter of fact, we had much bigger necessary repair works in spring this year.
The east arch began to collapse because of the heavy snow and the strong Himalayan Musk rose. The floor wood of the wooden deck went rotten, so there was only a base at the beginning of May.

My husband began to repair them from the beginning of spring, though we did not think we would welcome the guests at the end of May then.

He worked hard and completed the work at the middle of May.

 And well done!

The year 2025 became a special year for me, too!

Attending the World Rose Convention Fukuyama itself was a big event for me. Moreover it was unbelievable to welcome them in my garden after the Convention.
Every year I prepare the rose shervet all the year round. I prepare my garden for the rose season from early spring. Though the 2025 year was too busy, I felt preparation is always very important.

Post post tour in Hokkaido, 2025

One means Calycanthus 'Wine Heart Premium.'
Rosarian must love this flower with wine red colour and shape.

May 31, 2025

Here and there, how wonderful guests are in my garden from abroad!

It was a very reckless decision. However, they were so kind. During the Hokkaido tour after that, each of them came to me and said,"thank you very much for showing us your garden."

The timing might be lucky for me. As the rose season hadn't begun, all the rose specialist could not find the real rose weak points well. Hahaha...

The only blooming rose was Rosa acicularis. Thank you for blooming, Rosa acicularis!
I could welcomed the guests in my garden.

Several guests asked me how to make rose sherbet. I answered, "The sherbet rose is Fantin Latour. As for the recipe, please see my web site." I taught them how to see my site: 'Rose kitchen.'using the smart phone.

The west view of my house.
On the brick wall and under the brick wall, there are border gardens.

As a background rose, Paul's Himalayan Musk grew well. I have dreamed the house with roses for a long time. At last the west view looks so, doesn't it?

Carport Area

In the garden shed front garden, ER Shropshire Lass and Clematis 'Fujimusume' bloom nicely together.

They look beautiful against a background of Himalayan Musk in full bloom.

As for the garden, there were a few flowers in this season of the year. Only Clematis montana 'Elizabeth' and 'Rubens' had just bloomed.

The guest from Iceland said to me, "In my garden I have almost all the flowers of your garden except one."
"Oh?!"

The blooming season of the small white rose 'Gunsei' is the best season of my garden.
The flower is small, but the tree is big, so every spring I induce the branches on the next trees imaging the blooming season.
Together with Himalayan Musk it makes my garden romantic soft colour garden.

As a help, My friends and my husband served the sherbet, fruit cake, and iced tea to the guests.
I was so happy when a girl from USA sitting on the wood deck called me. She expressed her appreciation, "This cake is delicious!"

How nice to enjoy together in my garden!

   May 6.
The rotten floor woods were removed. My husband repaired the basis.

Actually this was the third repair work after he made the wood deck 30 year ago. The wooden deck needs repair because of the outside hardy atmosphere.
   May 16.
The wooden floor was laid. The steps not yet.

As a wooden floor, my husband used Borneo Ironwood. It's so heavy, hard, expensive, but very durable. Not rotten. He said, "It will endure throughout our life."
Look at the gloss of the floor!
It's unbeliebale and superb wood!
Recently the Borneo Ironwood (Ulin) is used for many places.

 May 6.
My husband had completed repairing the east arch, too in April.
He reconstructed the new arch putting Himalayan Musk inside the arch. Because Himalayan Musk had pushed the former arch from outside when growing and the arch had been destroyed. Drastic idea!

Please enjoy the beautiful roses of this season.
I wish the guests of the World Rose Convention had come at the end of June!
In Hokkaido our rose season begins from the end of June.

It was a season of fresh green. Roses had just come into bud.
However, I felt relieved to see the guests enjoying my small private garden.
