My garden 2024

After 30 years the hand-made trellises and obelisks became decrepit. While rebuilding them one by one, we suddenly got a new idea! Then a fresh area appeared in the garden.

The trellis area in the south-east corner is a new face in this season.
The trellis with the arched top stands elegantly side by side with other new trellises.

Another new scene is the west wall of the house covered with Paul's Himalayan Musk. I've tried several roses here unsuccessfully for a long time, however, at last I can see the west wall covered with roses in full bloom for the first time!!!

The red rose is Tess of d'Ubervilles.
Typical quater rosette flower is real crimson.

The red area is the red and purple flower garden. The small purple red rose is Violet. Always she smiles at me when I am near her.

Topics

What is the mystery? It is the first rose. It was Paul's Himalayan Musk! It grew higher and higher toward the second floor window box, however, it didn't have any flowers.
I said to the people who visited my house, 'please think it a foliage plant, not a rose.'

After my husband built the garden shed, the plants in the west garden became healthy. The strong west wind is blocked by the shed?
The bed level was higher than the earth level before, so the rose roots may have damaged by the coldness. Now I changed it into the earth level.
Thanks to the above two solutions, I can see the rose wall in full bloom.

Inside of the shed. I offer my hospitality here in the rose season, talking with my guests about the gardening. In the morning I arrange my favorite roses to welcome my guests.

The center area garden is seen from the room. The new face, English rose 'Elizabeth,' is very grace. It has a queen like elegant shape and color of cool pink.

White rose:Paul's Himalayan Musk

As the lump of the icy snow destroyed the trellises here,
we planned to rebuild the new trellises in the south-east corner of the garden.

We had happened to get the trellis with an arched top last autumn, so we decided to make good use of it here.

* Pergola area

* The center garden area

As the west wall was flowery, the front garden of the shed became brilliant.
Not only Paul's Himalayan Musk, but also other roses became healthy and vivid.
Roses bloom much more, the flowers are bigger than before.
Is it actually a garden shed effect?

West Wall

Wisley 2008 and clematis 'Milky Way' are a good match.
I can move Wisley anywhere because it was potted. However, when I put it beside the Milky Way at the beginning, I could not think any other place anymore.

There is a pergola area on the left of the west main garden. I designed it in order to make full use of the shade area. Based on my slipshod rough sketch, my husband made the pergola area nicely. Rose-Marie Viaud is a good rose in the shade garden. It blooms beautifully at the end of the season. Small purple red flowers are very chic. When it blooms, the once flowering rose season will soon finish.

This is the south wall of the house. I dreamed of the kitchen window fringed with roses. Wow! Paul's Himalayan Musk grew not only to the east wall but also to the south wall!
What a happy surprise!
The soft baby pink fowers are always welcome, even they cover all over my house.
As I have told you, I planted another Paul's Himalayan Musk in the west garden. So happy!

How many roses I have planted here on the west wall of the house! Though the first rose grew high toward the second floor window, it did not have almost any flowers for several years. The second rose was damaged by the powdery mildew. The third rose did not grow well.

After all I decided to entrust a task to Paul's Himalayan Musk which gave results on the east wall.
After waiting for three years, the rose wall appeared! Good job, Himalayan Musk!
 However, a mystery remains.

Entrance area
It was completed at the middle of June, when the rose season began.
I arranged the potted Laura Ashley and the potted Hakonechloa macra as a temporary measure.

The climbing rose 'Benigasumi' which was planted long ago was of great help.
It is a late blooming rose. The little red flower looks like Japanese Kimono pattern.

Paul's Himalayan Musk at the entrance area bloomed beautifully in the season, too!
Weeping from the shed roof and the entrance roof, it spreads gentle frangrance here and there. The east wall is covered with soft white pink roses!
It welcomes the guests at the entrance area. Much useful and helpful rose.

Below the kitchen window, there is Princess Alexandra of Kent. Very elegant, early blooming rose. When it blooms, I always feel the rose season has just begun!

Rosa 'Benigasumi'

Though my idea was to line it up side by side horizontally with other trellises, the idea of my husband was different. He planned to put it diagonally!

Diagonally!? So what will happen in the triangle area behind it? However, soon I knew it was a really good idea!

A drastic area appeared here. My husband looked proudly! I became happy!

I planted the Jananese anemone in the triangle area. When it grows, it must be a nice background of the arched trellis.

Ghislaine de Feligonde is the picturesque rose. Don't you think so?
Pale cream yellow flower, reddish bud, apricot opening petal. It looks a bouquet.
I can entrust the shed door area to the rose!

The plants around the pergola area grew well and match well with roses.
Sambucus nigra 'Black Lace' has a delicate flower like a lace flower.

Rosa'Gunmai'

The pink rose 'Gunmai' is planted beside the front window of the shed. It's a pink version of 'Gunsei.' I was enchanted by 'Gunmai' when I saw it in my friend's garden!

Tarte aux Poire and the fruit cake with rose geranium leaves on the top are must items in the garden party. Fully prepared!

There are dried herb flowers hanging from the ceiling of the garden shed.
It gets dry well because the room is well aired. It smells well when breezing.

Behind the red rose area, there is an old sewing machine area with the potted Laura Ashley on the top.
Very nice background.

Harlow Carr has basically a small flower. However, please look! What a big flower it is! The fragrance of Harlow Carr is very basic old rose fragrance. It became a welcome rose to the garden shed.
